Dear Iris4u friends and fans,

For the past 14 years, Iris4u Greenhouse has been importing Tall Bearded Iris from the family “garden” in Denver, Colorado to offer more than 400 varieties from a wide range of hybridizers each year to Europe.

In 2022, Iris4u Greenhouse restructured its catalog to focus exclusively on the 100+ varieties of VAN LIERE introductions, old and new.

Our online shop is now open for the 2023 season!

If you are looking for as specific variety no longer listed in our online catalog, please get in touch with us by email or visit us in Ahrensburg, near Hamburg.  We have many of those non-Van Liere iris now in containers at our greenhouse for you to purchase.  Stock is limited and is on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The most colorful time to visit us is during the main flowering period from mid-May to early June, Fridays or Saturdays.  Best to call in advance since weather conditions will influence earlier or later color!

We thank you for trusting Iris4u Greenhouse and look forward to your visit, whether online or in person!

We wish you a wonderful spring, stay healthy and see you soon!

Jennifer and Markus Dreyer

Did you know that the Tall Bearded Iris was named Perennial of the Year 2016 in Germany?

They may seem like garden divas, but in actuality, iris are easy to care for and thrive in almost all soil types.  With plenty of sun and warmth, these uncomplicated perennials become the “kings and queens” of your garden between May and June.

Whether you call these cultivars Iris, Bearded Iris, Tall Bearded Iris, Iris germanica, Iris barbata, or Iris barbata-elatior makes no difference.  The name is not what impresses, but rather the flower: solid self or multi-colored; laced or ruffled; spooned or horned beards.  There is something for everyone and the combinations are endless.

Our filter function below will help you navigate our online shop to help you find your perfect iris!

When will my Iris bloom?  There are 3 main categories when Tall Bearded Iris start to flower: Early, Mid-season and Late.  Naturally weather plays a big role - warm spring temperatures will mean an earlier start to the season.  A cooler spring then means a later start.  Below is a general rule of thumb when to expect color in your garden.

Very Early:  beginning of May

Early: mid to end of May

Middle:  end of May to the beginning of June

Late:  mid to end of June

Rebloomer:  Tall Bearded Iris is a winter hardy perennial which blooms each year in spring.  A “Rebloomer” blooms in spring and can potentially bloom again in autumn.  That’s what makes them so unique!
